BREAKING THE STIGMA — WORKSHOP

Breaking The Stigma Dance is a mental-health–centered dance organization founded by Sky and Josiyah in memory of their close friend and fellow dancer, Jaiden.

The mission: combine dance, healing, and community support to address the stigma around mental health in the dance world. Both founders are internationally recognized dancers (Elektrobotz, LA industry performers), and their 3-day Industry Training Workshop was designed to prepare dancers for professional careers — mentally, emotionally, and artistically.

I was hired to film the final day, “Content Day,” where dancers performed their polished choreography on camera to build their portfolios and gain confidence in a professional production environment.

    • Film choreography in a way that highlights each dancer’s individuality, performance quality, and camera presence.

    • Create clean, polished footage that dancers can confidently use in their portfolios, submissions, and reels.

    • Maintain a respectful, supportive tone that aligns with the organization’s mental-health mission.

    • Focus on clarity, performance detail, and emotional expression rather than flashy camera movement — letting the dancers shine.

    • TALENT: Some of Colorado’s top dancers — several now working professionally (studio owners, touring dancers, etc.)

    • Dancers delivering industry-level performance quality in a safe, supportive environment.

    • Sky’s Heels solos — powerful, confident, and emotionally expressive.

    • Josiyah’s Hip Hop class — high energy, musical, and clean formations.

    • Watching dancers step into their “camera-ready” selves, many for the first time.

    • The emotional weight of the organization’s mission present throughout the day — honoring Jaiden through excellence.
